Chapter 17 - Cytoskeleton - Questions - Page 601: Question 17-23

Answer

D. Sarcomeres become shorter.

Work Step by Step

Sarcomeres, which are made up of overlapping actin and myosin filaments, are the fundamental units of contraction in skeletal muscle fibers. Actin and myosin filaments pass past one another during muscular contraction, shortening the sarcomeres. The entire muscle fiber eventually contracts as a result of this shortening of the sarcomeres.
