d.

Work Step by Step

Surface area is very important when talking about a cell. The surface area of a cell tells how much cell membrane is available for gas exchange and the taking in of nutrients and the expelling of waste products. It is important that the surface area-to-volume ratio of a cell is big enough to support these types of activities that must occur through the cell membrane.
