Areolar tissue is loose connective tissue. it can be found in the dermis, and mucosa, as well as around nerves and blood vessels. The matrix consists of fibers--collagen, elastic and reticular- and ground substance. The few cells include fibroblasts, macrophages, and plasma cells. In addition this tissue contains some adipocytes.
