Chapter 22 - The Respiratory System - Study Guide - True or False - Page 888: 3

Answer

3. True

Work Step by Step

In alveolar capillaries, the oncotic pressure is greater than the blood pressure (hydrostatic). The oncotic pressure is colloid osmotic pressure exerted mainly by serum albumin: it is about 25 mmHg, while the capillary blood pressure ( hydrostatic pressure) is about 13 mm Hg. This situation, of course, favors reabsorption of fluid into the capillaries.
