Chapter 1 - Section 1.7 - The Language of Medicine - Before You Go On - Page 21: 22

Answer

An eponym is a term made form the name of a person. An acronym is an independently pronounceable abbreviation, formed from the initial letters of some words combined. Encountering such words are rather confusing, if one doesn't have a deeper knowledge of medical terms: such words don't shed any light on what the term actually means, in contrary to international ones in Latin.

Work Step by Step

Terms "eponym" and "acronym" are explained in section "The History of Anatomical Terminology" 1.7, p. 19-20. These two terms also make learning medical terminology easier for when learning very large words in the various medical specialities, for example when doctors in surgery perform a CABAGE.
