Answer

The median is not so affected by the outliers

Work Step by Step

The median salary is approximately the middle salary of the workers. The mean salary can be much greater if a few workers have high salaries. Therefore that is why workers would prefer to use the median salary. Example: 2000, 2100, 2300, 2400, 2600, 2700, 2700, 3700, 5000 The median is 2600. The mean is: $\dfrac{2000+2100+2300+2400+2600+2700+2700+3700+5000}{9}\approx 2833$ The mean is higher because of the two high salaries.
