Chapter 4 - Number Representation and Calculation - 4.3 Computation in Positional Systems - Exercise Set 4.3 - Page 235: 52

Answer

01100, 00110, 01110, and 10001

Work Step by Step

The fist not function for the 2 blanks, reverses the digits of the binary code, that is, 0 in place of 1 and 1 in place of zero. So for the first blank, the binary codes are 01100 and 00110, respectively. Now, these codes have to pass through an OR gate. In an OR gate, if either of the input is 1, the resultant output is 1, and only if both the inputs are 0, then the output is also 0. Therefore, the resultant code for the third blank will be 01110. Finally, this code has to pass through a NOT gate for the final output. So, the final output will be 10001.
