Chapter 4 - Decimals - 4.2 Rounding Decimal Numbers - 4.2 Exercises - Page 280: 25

Work Step by Step

When you round to the nearest cent, you are rounding to the nearest hundredths of a dollar. To round 0.6983 to the nearest cent, draw a "cut-off" line after the hundredths place: "0.69". Next, look at the first number you cut off: "8". If the number is 5 or above, round up to the nearest cent: "$0.70". Note: Rounding to hundredths means two decimal places, so be sure to add a "0" in the hundredths place (0.70, not 0.7).
