Chapter 2 - Differentiation - Section Project - Optical Illusions - Page 147: c

Answer

$\dfrac{dy}{dx}=\sqrt{3}.$

Work Step by Step

$ax=by\rightarrow y=\frac{a}{b}x$ $\dfrac{dy}{dx}=\dfrac{a}{b}$ When $a=\sqrt{3}$ and $b=1\rightarrow \dfrac{dy}{dx}=\dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{1}=\sqrt{3}.$ Note: By rewriting the equation and using the Power Rule, the derivative was found. An alternate method would be to apply the Chain Rule immediately. Both methods are correct and lead to the same answer.
