Chapter 7 - Functions and Graphs - 7.2 Domain and Range - 7.2 Exercise Set - Page 458: 21

Answer

Domain=[-4,4] Range={-3,-1,1}

Work Step by Step

For problem 21 the graph shows us 6 points. Two of the points are not closed these points are (2,-3) (0.-1). The four closed points are (-4,-3) (-2,-1) (0,1) (4,1) This problem may seem confusing because of the two open points, but it is actually really simple. The line's range is fragmented, but its domain can be seen as a continuous line taking place at different levels. Our domain is [-4,4]. The line, however, is not connected is fragmented for the range. This means we have to use set-builder notation to write our answer. Our range from our closed points are -3,-1,1 Our range is {-3,-1,1}
