Chapter 2 - Real Numbers - 2.1 - Rational Numbers: Multiplication and Division - Problem Set 2.1: 90

Answer

The answer is below.

Work Step by Step

In order to reduce any number to lowest terms, write both the numerator and the denominator in terms of the lowest group of multiplied prime numbers possible. (For instance, write 8 as 2 times 2 times 2). Next, cross out any numbers that are common to both the numerator and the denominator. The final fraction can then be found by multiplying all of the prime numbers that are not crossed out in the numerator by each other to find the new numerator and by multiplying all of the prime numbers that are not crossed out in the denominator by each other to find the new denominator.
