Chapter R - Section R.4 - Factoring Polynomials - R.4 Exercises - Page 38: 1

Answer

12(m + 5)

Work Step by Step

1. We are doing common monomial factoring. 2. First, determine the greatest common factor or GCF of the two terms 12m and 60. The GCF is 12 because 12 is the greatest factor which is common to 12m and 60. 3. Second, divide each term of the binomial (12m + 60) by 12. 12m divided by 12 is m; and 60 divided by 12 is 5. Now you have (m + 5). 4. Finally, take the divisor 12 and quotient (m + 5) as factors, you have 12(m + 5) which is now the factored form of (12m + 60).
