Chapter 7 - Exponential and Logarithmic Functions - Chapter Review - Page 489: 34

Answer

Refer to the blue graph below.

Work Step by Step

RECALL: The graph of $y=a\cdot f(x)$ involves a vertical stretch by a factor of $a$ of the parent function $f(x)$. The parent function of the given function is $f(x)=\log_2{x}$. Thus, to graph the given function, perform the following steps: (1) Graph the parent function $f(x)=\log_2{x}$. (Refer to the red graph below.) (2) With $a=2$, vertically stretch the graph of $f(x)=\log_2{x}$ by a factor of $3$. This can be done by multiplying by $3$ each $y$ value of $f(x)$ (Refer to blue graph above.)
