Chapter 2 - Functions, Equations, and Graphs - 2-6 Families of Functions - Practice and Problem-Solving Exercises - Page 104: 12

The graph of $y=x+1.5$ is the graph of $y=x$ translated $1.5$ units upward. Refer to the green graph below.

Work Step by Step

Make a table of values for $y=x$ and $y=x+1.5$ (refer to the table below). Then, graph each function by plotting each ordered pair and connect the set of points using a straight line. (Refer to the graph above. The black graph is $y=x$ and the green graph is $y=x+1.5$.) Note that the value of $x+1.5$ is $1.5$ greater than the value of $x$. Thus, the graph of $y=x+1.5$ is the graph of $y=x$ translated $1.5$ units upward.
