Work Step by Step

Observe the fractions. The common denominator is 4. Organize your real number line to have four equally distanced marks between 0 and 1. This is the unit length; all integers are set to be this distance apart. For example, if your unit is 1 inch long, use the $1/4$ inch marks on your ruler. Graph the integers first, $-3, 2$ and $4.$ $\displaystyle \frac{5}{2}=2\frac{1}{2}=2.5\quad $ is halfway between $2$ and $3$. $-\displaystyle \frac{9}{4}=-2\frac{1}{4}\quad $ is between $-3 $ and $-2 $ (first mark left of $-2$)
