Work Step by Step

Observe the fractions. The common denominator is 4. Organize your real number line to have four equally distanced marks between 0 and 1. This is the unit length; all integers are set to be this distance apart. For example, if your unit is 1 inch long, use the $1/4$ inch marks on your ruler. Graph the integers first, $5, -2$ and $-1.$ $-\displaystyle \frac{3}{4}$ is between $-1 $ and $0 $ (third mark left of zero) $\displaystyle \frac{9}{2}=4\frac{1}{2}=4.5$ is halfway between 4 and 5.
