Chapter 4 - An Introduction to Functions - Concept Byte - Graphing Functions and Solving Equations - Page 261: 2

Answer

The graph was created using the function y=-3x+8 which shows that 8 is the y-intercept. The graph is in the screenshot.

Work Step by Step

The graph was created by plugging in the x values into the equation. So when x is 0, y=-3(0)+8 which equals 8. x =1, leads to y=-3(1)+8 which is 5. Another easier to way graph this would be moving down by 3 units on the graph when you moved across by 1 as the slope of the graph is -3. If you wanted to move to the negative x axis, you would go up 3 and move to the left by 1.
