Chapter 4 - An Introduction to Functions - Chapter Review - 4-2 Patterns and Linear Functions - Page 282: 7

Answer

Independent variables: 0, 1, 2, 3 Dependent variables: 128, 98, 68, 38

Work Step by Step

The relationship is based on the number of chairs painted and the paint left after each paint job. So if 0 chairs are painted, 128 oz. of paint are left. If 1 chair is painted, 98 oz. of paint is left. If 2 chairs are painted then 68 oz. of paint is left and if 3 chairs are painted then 38 oz. paint is left. We can see a pattern that the range value are separated by a difference of 30 oz so we can assume that each chair takes up 30 oz of paint after being painted.
