Chapter 2 - Solving Equations - 2-8 Proportions and Similar Figures - Lesson Check - Page 133: 4

Answer

part a: yes part b: no part c: yes

Work Step by Step

$\Delta$$ABC$$\sim$$\Delta$$TUV$ Part a: The angle measurements are the same in similar figures. As the book states,"The order of the letters when you name similar figures tells which parts of the figures are corresponding parts (pg. 130)." Therefore, $\angle$$A$$\cong$$\angle$$T$. Part b: The side length proportions are the same for similar triangles, but the actual side length measurements are different, otherwise they would be congruent. Therefore, the perimeters are different. Part c: The ratio of the sides $\frac{BC}{UV}$ and $\frac{AC}{TV}$ are equal because $BC$ and $UV$ and $AC$ and $TV$ are corresponding sides as stated by the order of letters when the similar triangles were named.
