Answer

-6r+37

Work Step by Step

4(r+9) -5 (2r-1) 1. Distribute 4 to (r+9) 4 x r + 4 x 9 = 4r + 32 2. Distribute -5 to (2r-1) -5 x 2r + -5 x -1 = - 10r + 5 4(r+9) -5 (2r-1) = 4r + 32 - 10r + 5 3. Combine Like terms. Remember that a variable cannot be combined with the same variable with a different exponent on it. 4r, -10r have the same variable and are therefore like terms. 4r -10r = -6r +32, +5 have no variable and are therefore like terms. 32 +5 = 37 4r + 32 - 10r + 5 - 6r + 37 = -12r + 74
