"Tears of Autumn" and Other Stories Analysis

Tears of Autumn represents the life of a girl Hana Omiya. She lives in Japan and wants to travel to other countries. Hana lives peacefully in her homeland, but her uncle Oji San tells her about Taro San. Taro San is a gentleman and, he is Oji San's friend son.

Hana's uncle wants Hana to get married to Taro San. Although Hana does not want to marry with someone, she does not know, but she already knows that in the future, she has to marry to someone. And she also thinks about to escape from her village and routine life, so she accepts her uncle's opinion to get married to Taro San.

Yoshiko Uchida represents a character, Hana, who is fearless and willing to take chances in her life. Hana starts her journey from Japan to America. She travels a lot, and she experiences many things during her journey. And finally she reaches America, and on a boat, she meets Taro San. Hana finds out that Taro San is going to bald soon, and he apologizes to Hana for sending his old photo to Hana for the marriage proposal.

In this story, the writer wanted to express her sufferings and the journey of her life. The character Hana resembles her. The writer Yoshiko Uchida did not want to leave her hometown, but during World War II, the Japanese people were captivated by the American naval forces.
