Marco
Marco was a journalist who fell in love with a female matador, Lydia. A relationship is formed between them, but unfortunately, he is forced to be alone as he is later told that Lydia was about to leave him. In the end of the story, Marco and Alicia (a previously comatose patient) come across each other.
Lydia
Lydia was a female matador who falls into a coma after being gored. While she had been Marco's lover, she was about to leave him just before the accident which pushed her into a coma. In the end, Marco gets to know that Lydia has died.
Benigno
Benigno was a personal nurse who had been taking care of a comatose patient, Lydia. He was also in love with her. He is later convicted of rape of Alicia, as it is found that she was pregnant. Benigno ends his life by attempting to slip into a coma by taking an overdose of pills.
Alicia
Alicia was a comatose patient who was under the care of Benigno. She later recovers from the coma and goes on to lead a normal life. Alicia and Marcos come across each other in the end.
