Super Size Me Irony

Morgan's Girlfriend

Morgan's girlfriend, Alex, is a Vegan and so eats no animal products at all, which is ironic given that she is now helping her boyfriend to eat as much ground beef as he can for this experiment.

Effect on Morgan's Body

Morgan has been a vegan for some years and is actually a very healthy man before embarking on this project. The fast food wreaks far more damage in his body than it would have done had he not been so healthy and enjoyed such a healthy diet. It is ironic that his body is punishing him for giving up his healthy lifestyle than it would have done if he had not had quite such a healthy diet.

It's Bad for Us So Let's Eat More

The biggest irony of fast food is that the worse it is for us the more our bodies seem to crave it. Also the worse we realize it is for us the more we seem to need to continue eating it. These two facts are extremely ironic.

Re-Branding Ronald McDonald

Ronald McDonald wore a traditional clown costume very successfully but when this film was released and the unhealthiness of fast food highlighted they re-branded Ronald as a healthy clown in a jogging suit, to make it appear that their food could still feature in a healthy lifestyle. The irony of this re-branding exercise is that the corporation spent time and money making their food appear healthy but no time or money actually trying to make it so.

Recognizable Figures

McDonald's has Ronald McDonald, the universally recognized clown. Wendy's has Wendy, the cute little red-haired kid. When children are shown their pictures they are immediately able to identify them yet when they are shown pictures of world leaders and even a picture of Jesus they are unable to identify them. This is ironic because the marketing machine of fast food giants ha a far larger reach than that of figures in history who changed the world.
