    If Books Could Talk

    Kind of Activity:

    Collaborative Writing

    Objective:

    Students will be able to identify voice in the text.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.1

    Structure:

    Begin by discussing broadly the kind of discussion the narrator has with the book in "The Mutability of Literature." Make sure students grasp the general meaning and structure of the conversation.

    In pairs or small groups, ask students to draw up an outline of the argument by making a list that plots their points side by side. Decide beforehand how detailed this outline should be by asking for a certain number of points to include.
