Why do you think Oedipus is not included by name in the text of the poem? Where else have we seen this in relation to a main character of a poem?
Oedipus does not deserve the wealth and bounty of Athens, he does not belong there, and thus is also left out of the poem. We have seen this in "Leda and the Swan" as well.
