Other Desert Cities Background

Other Desert Cities premiered on January 13, 2011 and was first shown on Broadway about 10 months later. Set in Palm Springs, California, the play is written by Jon Robin Baitz. The first Jon Baitz play to ever make it to Broadway, Other Desert Cities was close to winning the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. A thrilling story about long-held secrets, Other Desert Cities was respected by a wide audience.

Jon Robin Baitz was born on the 4th of November, 1961, in Los Angeles, California. Raised in a Jewish family, Baitz lived in Brazil and South Africa during some parts of his childhood, but the family eventually decided to move back to California. His father was in charge of the Carnation Company, which gave Baitz the time and money to start thinking about writing.

Instead of attending college, Baitz worked at a bookstore. This in part fueled his passion for fiction, as well as a job as an assistant producer. He has written 7 plays before Other Desert Cities.
