    Objective:

    Students will watch a film adaptation of Orlando and analyze the director's interpretation of the novel.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.7

    Structure:

    In 1992 a film version of Orlando was released, directed by Sally Potter. The film was well-received, though its interpretation of the novel is loose. Show the film in class and ask students to take notes while watching. Instruct them to pay close attention to how the director deals with time and the more fantastical elements of the book--how do these translate into film? What does the visual aspect add to Orlando's story? What is missing from the movie...
