On Fire: The (Burning) Case for a Green New Deal Irony

On Fire: The (Burning) Case for a Green New Deal Irony

The irony of the USA and China

The USA and China are the two leading global polluters. Both the USA and China are the biggest economies globally, and they pride themselves on being ahead of the world. Ironically, the wealth generated by these countries is obtained by activities that greatly pollute the environment. The reader expects the USA and China to be leaders of green energy to act as an example of countries that have adopted and implemented the Green New Deal.

The irony of capitalism

The United States of America and other developed countries are the biggest crusaders of the capitalistic economic models. A capitalistic economy does not care about the cost of making money as long as wealth is guaranteed. Consequently, capitalistic nations have many industries that emit carbon dioxide and other dangerous gases to the atmosphere. The reader finds it satirical that Green New Deal does not encourage the change of global economic model to achieve sustainability in climate change.

The irony of saving the world

Readers find it ironic when the author argues that climate change can be attained if many people join hands against pollution. The author refuses to believe that change begins with oneself before bringing others on board. Change begins with one person and country, which is attained through educating others and encouraging them to adopt green energy to save the world as a unified force.

The irony of Pope Francis

Pope Francis is the head of the Catholic Church globally, which has the highest number of followers. Ironically, the Pope is preaching the gospel and reminding the global citizens at large of the significance of environmental conservation and climate change. Therefore, The Pope is a leading crusader of environmental conservation.

The irony of the Green New Deal

The biggest question is, 'Will the developing countries adopt the Green New Deal?' Most developed countries such as the USA and China are in the frontline campaigning for green energy, but they are not walking the talk. The reader realizes that there are ideological clashes between the proposers of climate change. Consequently, the wealthiest nations are only beating drums of climate change, but it will take many years for them to lead as examples.
