    Why is it so important for Carol to take notes while John is speaking? Why does she want to remember what he says?

    Be prepared for some students to claim that she is trying to trick John and get him to fall into some kind of trap. Though this is not supported by the text, it is understandable why students might feel this way given how the notes are used against John later in the story.
