    What is the metaphorical meaning of darkness in the novel?

    The author figuratively uses darkness as a metaphor for evil. The reader realizes that bad things and evil activities are associated with darkness. The journey to the Underworld by Richard and Door is filled with darkness, speaker rats and night bridges. Similarly, the supernatural assassins operate in the Underworld, and their work is to traumatize and kill anybody opposing Islington's rule.

    Identity crisis is one of the main themes in the novel. When Richard meets Door, everything changes because he loses his identity and accompanies her in the London Underworld. While in the Underworld, Richard does not remember anything about his life, family and business. The paradox is that Richard changes into a better person in the Underworld.

    Does the narrator depict Islington as greedy, oppressive and a traitor?

    Islington is a man who is in charge of protecting the London Underworld. However, the narrator uncovers the dark side of Islington when he meets Door, Marquis and Richard. Door is looking for a special key, and she wants to know the people who killed her parents. Islington promises to reveal to Door the people responsible for the death of her parents. However, Islington wants Door to find the special key so that she can open the heavens to enable him to rule both worlds. Later, it is revealed that Islington is the one who organized the death of Door's parents, and he also kills Marquis. Similarly, Islington is the one who sends supernatural assassins to trouble Door. Therefore, it is true that Islington is an insatiable, tyrannical and conspirator.
