Study Objectives

If all of the elements of this lesson plan are employed, students will develop the following powers, skills, and understanding:

    Students will build a familiarity with the Meiji Era of Japan, and how it functions within the country's larger historical context.

    Students will discuss themes of cultural conflict, and the troubles individuals in Japan faced during their country's rapid Westernization.

  3. 3

    Students will explore misanthropy, and discuss how people react to a trauma in the long term.

  4. 4

    Students will explore how loneliness and love manifest themselves differently in different people.
