Kaeleigh Gardella

Kaeleigh is the novel's protagonist and twin sister to Raeanne. Kaeleigh is the daughter of Raymond and Kay. The author depicts Kaeleigh as a conservative and secretive girl because she rarely talks to people about what she goes through. Kaeleigh is a troubled high school student, and at home, her father sexually abuses her.

Kaeleigh is Ian's girlfriend. However, she does not open up to him about her sufferings. Kaeleigh is traumatized and suffering in silence, but she is scared to tell Ian about her father's sexual abuse. The only person who knows the suffering of Kaeleigh is her twin sister, Raeanne.

Raeanne

Raeanne is Kaeleigh's twin sister, and the author depicts her as caring, concerned and jealous. Raeanne is also a troubled high school student because her family is divided. Raeanne is worried about her sister's suffering. Raeanne knows that her father is sexually assaulting Kaeleigh. Sometimes, Raeanne feels jealous of her sister because their father loves her more. Raeanne thinks she should also pleasure her father sexually, but she cannot. Raeanne gets little attention from her parents, and she often feels lonely. Consequently, Raeanne starts trading sex for drugs to fill the gap she feels in her life.

Raeanne loves her sister, and she is ready to do everything to protect her. Raeanne comforts her sister emotionally and requests her to seek help. When things get out of hand, Raeanne visits Grandpa Gardella to inquire more about her father's history. Raeanne discovers that her father was sexually abused while growing up.

Raymond

Raymond is the father of Kaeleigh and Raeanne and the husband of Key. Raymond is a lawyer but has a poor relationship with his wife. The relationship between Raymond and his wife is strained because she is always away pursuing her political ambitions. As a result, Raymond is an alcoholic, and one day, he is involved in a road accident. Since Raymond misses the love from his wife, he starts spending time in his 10-year-old Kaeleigh's room. A few days later, Raymond starts to abuse Kaeleigh sexually, and it becomes a norm for several years. While growing up, Raymond was sexually abused by his neighbor, and he found it okay to assault his daughter. After several years of abusing his daughter and drinking alcohol, Raymond agrees to seek help from a rehabilitation center.

Kay

Kay is Raymond's wife and mother of twin sisters Kaeleigh and Raeanne. The author depicts Kay as an ambitious woman, ready to pursue her career regardless of her family's needs. Consequently, Kay is a mean woman because she does not care about the welfare of her daughters and husband. Kay pursues her ambitions until she wins the Congress seat. Throughout the novel, readers realize that Kay only visits her family occasionally. In other words, Kay does not participate in raising her daughters because she leaves all the responsibilities to her husband.

Grandma Gardella

Grandma Gardella is the mother of Raymond and grandmother to Kaeleigh and Raeanne. Grandma Gardella is a loving and caring woman. After realizing that Kaeleigh is going through sexual abuse from her father, she takes her to their country home to counsel her.

Greta

Greta is a resident of a Lutheran home, and the author describes her as attentive and sharp-eyed. When Kaeleigh escapes to the Lutheran home to look for a job, Greta notices something is wrong with the young girl. When Greta tries to inquire about Kaeleigh's mental condition, she refuses to open up.

Ian

Ian is Kaeleigh's boyfriend. Ian is anxious about Kaeleigh's condition but does not know how to help her. Making matters worse, Kaeleigh is not ready to open up and tell him what she is going through. Sometimes, Ian confuses Kaeleigh for Raeanne because they are identical in every aspect.

Hannah

Hannah is a student nurse who is intelligent and ready to assist whenever she is consulted. When Kaeleigh takes drug overdose and alcohol, Raymond approaches Hannah for help. Hannah quickly saves Kaeleigh's life by making her vomit. Hannah and Kaeleigh's father have had a sexual affair in the past

Grandpa Gardella

Grandpa Gardella is Raymond's father and grandfather of Kaeleigh and Raeanne. Grandpa Gardella is worried about his son's alcoholic and abusive behavior. Grandpa Gardella reveals to Raeanne that Raymond was sexually abused while growing up, contributing to his weird behavior.
