Jacob and his friends are running away from the wights using a boat and they are trying to reach a safer destination where their security is guaranteed. However, after arriving at the island, they realize that the wights are in the air looking for them. Each child in this group has a particular capability of identifying something. Realizing that the wights are after them, they hide in a secretive place till the following morning so that they can continue locating a safer place where the wights cannot find them as they find their way to London.

The Wren's pigeons first help the peculiar children to locate Miss Wren who finds and brings Miss Peregrine to a human being again. Therefore, the role of Miss Wren's pigeons is to direct the peculiar children to Miss Wren whose job is to treat and turn Miss Peregrine to human again.

How does the irony of Miss Peregrine’s liberation undertaking manifest itself in the Hollow City by Ransom Riggs?

Throughout the novel, the primary mission of the peculiar children is to rescue Miss Peregrine and turn her to a human. Their journey to London is full of challenges because the weights are after them. They use their peculiar capabilities to navigate to London where Miss Peregrine is to be healed and turned to human by Miss Wren. Miss Wren performs her healing and turns Miss Peregrine to a human. Ironically, the peculiar children realize later that the converted Miss Peregrine is a male not female. Therefore, their whole mission turns out to be unfruitful.
