    Hersey describes the ruins of Hiroshima as Miss Sasaki is driven through as awesome and shocking. The ruin of the city is thorough. However, he evokes an amazing sense of the new growth by listing off the many different types of plants that seem to have been stimulated by the explosion. This evokes a sense of how lush it looked in a formerly urban environment.
