Child abuse and indifference

Children are the easiest victims, for they depend on adults, do not always know about the rights they have and could be easily deceived. The problem of child abuse becomes more and more urgent and it should be discussed in order to prevent tragedies from happening. Parents and those, who plan becoming parents one day, should learn how to protect their children. Be attentive, be kind and supportive! For instance, Babbie, the little girl Alice meets in the hospital, was raped by her mother’s boyfriend. That horror lasted almost a year and her mother didn’t even notice that something was clearly wrong. If Alice’s parents paid more attention to her or tried to listen to the things she said, she wouldn’t make so many mistakes. The whole story tells us how essential it is to listen. Indifference may cause a lot of problems!

Overrated expectations

Alice has a feeling that she can’t measure up to her parents’ and the society’s expectations. She tries to be kind, earns good grades and even starts dieting to be good-looking, but breaks down under the pressure. Overrated expectations are especially destructive and dangerous for a young person, whose insecurities are numerous. Parents have to teach children to value themselves before it is too late.

Depression and drug use

Alice’s state of mind indicates that she suffers from clinical depression or bipolar disorder and needs not only medical help but family’s support. Her fondness of drugs could be explained with her condition, for she feels alright only when she uses them. Being high, she doesn’t worries about her appearance, absence of friends, lack of attention and even her first crush. It is pure joy and freedom, she is surrounded with the people who have fun like there is no tomorrow. However, the longer she uses them the stronger depression’s grip becomes. She digs her own grave.
