Why do you think Alice moves in with Charlie? Why does she leave?
Alice's feelings for Charlie are ambiguous, because we only see her through his eyes. Sometimes he believes she loves him, sometimes he fears that she pities him. She may feel responsible for his plight. She leaves because he is mean to her, throws things and is largely miserable and filled with dread. She tries to care for him to the best of her ability, until eventually he tells her to go.
