    Foer's Multimedia Novel

    Kind of Activity:

    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    Students will analyze Foer's use of multimedia elements in the novel and will compare their reactions to those of critics.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.5, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.1

    Structure:

    Begin the activity by having students discuss their reactions to the novel's use of photographs, drawings, and various text forms (letters, interview transcripts, business cards, message transcripts, etc.). Is this something they have seen in novels before? If so, which ones? Have they enjoyed the experience of reading a multimedia novel so far or not?...
