Eight Plus One: Stories Irony

Irony of Mike's moustache

At the beginning of The Moustache, Mike is told to shave off his moustache by his mother, who doesn't believe that he should have one at seventeen. However, he decides to keep it on, and this ironically leads to him having an insightful conversation with his grandmother when he visits her.

Another of Mike's Girls

In this short story, Mike's father sees all Mike's girlfriends the same, believing they are all just young women. However, at the end of the text, he concludes that they are different from each other, just as all fathers are different.

Irony of parents lying

In I Almost Kissed My Father Goodnight, Mike discovers that his father had been lying about not having a break at work. Even though Mike admits that he himself had often lied to his parents, he is shocked that his parents are prepared to do the same.
