Tough love in "Closer"

Religious love made the family in "Closer" abandon love towards Uncle Charles, their member. Uncle Charles is a sinner, that is, he decided to live differently from what their beliefs dictate. It seems as though religious naturally excludes compassion, understanding and open-mindedness in this case. Alienating their son, shunning him from the family, they believe that they show love to God in that way. It is a tough kind of love, but they must show that they hate what is sinful.

Irony of "Great Day"

Audley's old museum house gets caught in fire and completely burns down. Audley is strangely unbothered with this event and even jokes that they got a bonfire after all. He thinks of the irony of the moment, how the mugglers, housebreakers dare to do things they don't and how they punish them to hide guilt. He contemplates how destruction is embedded into everyone and how order and desire to destroy is at an argument in each person. People are ironically in love with what they fear and hide from, death.

Regret in "Night Training"

"Night Training" is a story of regret. Young soldiers have to endure bullying and molestation by an older and experienced soldier, who uses them as means of releasing his own frustration with war. As Greg grows older he's come to accept and forget the experience. But, seed of regret is still left in him and it comes out in a dream. It is regret of not being able to say no, to stand up to the molester. In his dream, he is able to say no, but it is too late; there is no one behind to hear.
