It is a quote where the title of the collection of the story and the title of the story comes out for the first and last time. The dream stuff, the stuff that evokes dreams, is clearly revealed in this part of the story. Dreams are in fact a huge part of all the stories in the collection and the collection as a whole can be seen as a merging of dreams and reality.
"If one thick blade didn't know any more than another that the fence was there, why should his feet?"
It is a sentence from the story "Closer" where a strictly religious family casts out one of their members because he chose a different lifestyle. One of the youngest members of the family, Amy, is the observer of the treatment of her family towards Uncle Charles. She has a dream where Uncle Charles crosses the fence into their home freely. This sentence portrays the true issue of the story. Despite putting up fences, blades of grass stay the same on the outside just like the inside.
"No you didn't, he might have told him, I wasn't lost."
It is a sentence from the story "At Schindler's" where a young boy has to reconcile with the truth that his father is gone. This sentence comes out towards the end when Jack finally accepts the truth. One of the local boys comes to get him, so he can come to play with other kids his age. The boy says he found him and this is Jack's thought responding to that. Jack doesn't need finding because he's not lost. He knew all along where he was going, knew he had to accept the truth eventually, and knows where he is going, which is forward, leaving the past behind.
