What has happened to Diana in this chapter?
It is not particularly clear what happened to Diana in the tower to make her fall silent. This fact is not helped by the lack of narration from her perspective – indeed, the only version of events that readers are presented with is Bessian’s. Some students may speculate that, just like Diana experienced an emotional shock upon meeting Gjorg, she experienced an even greater emotional shock upon seeing all the other death-fated men hidden in the tower of refuge. Ultimately, however, there is no single correct answer.
