    Objective:

    Students will research Haiti to better understand the setting of the novel.

    Structure:

    In Breath, Eyes, Memory, Haiti is a character in and of itself. To better understand it, students will do research on the history and culture of Haiti. Ask students to consider the following in their research:

    • How is life different in Haiti than in the United States?
    • What is life like for young women in the country?
    • What important events have taken place in the country?
