    Horse Terminology

    Kind of Activity:

    Group Work

    Objective:

    The students will learn new terminology directly related to horses

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.8.4.C

    Structure:

    As there is a great deal of terminology related to horses in this novel, the first activity will see students working in small groups to understand the new vocabulary.

    Terminology (20-30 minutes)

    Place the students into groups of three or four and have them turn to Chapter Three. The groups should make a list of all the terminology related to Black Beauty's breaking-in: saddle, bridle, collar, crupper, breeching, cart, chaise, harness, halter, headstall, bit, iron shoes, and blinkers....
