The old team coach, Sune, is revealed to be a sore sight to those at the office, and they devise an agreement to replace him with David and get rid of him. They are described talking about firing the man who devoted his entire life and energy to the success of the hockey team in Beartown as if they are talking about replacing a piece of furniture. It shows the cold and calculative view of the ice hockey and the players as mere tools for monetary gain and success.
The holy trinity of the future
Kevin, David, and Peter are described as the three most important individuals for the ice hockey and the survival of Beartown. They are called the holy trinity of the future, Kevin being the hands, David the heart and Peter the brain. It is clear from the very start, and repeated throughout, that ice hockey is the only hope for future Beartown has.
Bears from Beartown
Maya decides to go to school after the truth about what Kevin did to her became public knowledge. She is demonized, and the only one who decides to sit next to her is her brother Leo. When she asks him why he did it, he answers because they aren’t bears from Beartown.
