Personal Statement and Overcoming a struggle


Long blonde hair, deep blue eyes, tall, tan, beautiful; I sit at cheer practice with my best friend Avery. Everything about her is amazing: her hair, her smile, her laugh. We were best friends, and we were inseparable. She was how I knew. I didn’t know a lot at the mere age of ten - I never knew same sex relationships were a real thing. Boys marry girls. That’s how it’s supposed to be; at least that’s how my four siblings and my divorced parents always portrayed it.

Long brown hair, dirt brown eyes, short, fair skin, charismatic; I have never been normal. Type one diabetic, gay, divorced parents: it gets lonely. My mom, confused by how her daughter could like girls. Devastated, she thinks men would be best for me. She is getting used to it? My dad, alcoholic, couldn’t care less about whom I love; always supportive, just be happy. He showed me my glove from third grade. Pink, I colored to the rainbow; I've always known who I am. Baseball, my passion: he reminds me of the forceful catches in the front yard, the 3-pointers in the driveway, the ollie- the first ollie I ever landed in the middle of the street.
