Annihilation (film) Irony

Kane

Kane comes out of his coma at the end of the film as Lena greets him in the hospital facility. Ironically, he is not who the doctors believe him to be, as he died inside "The Shimmer" and an entity transformed itself into a replica of himself.

Josie

Josie is on the journey into "The Shimmer" with Lena and Ventress who desire to fight it and face it respectively. Ironically, though Josie is following these women she is not one of them, and eventually determines that she will become a part of "The Shimmer" rather than attempt to oppose it or learn more about it any further.

Anya

Anya is a paramedic, a first responder, who has seen some insane things in her chosen profession. Ironically, when she comes face to face with a mutated animal attacking one of the team she completely loses her cool. She ties everyone up and threatens to kill them all believing that will solve their issues.

Belief

Lena has believed for a year that Kane, her husband, is alive though she hasn't heard from him or been given any official information from the Army about his mission. Ironically, though her belief is strong she decides to have an affair with another professor at the university, thus creating a betrayal she believes she must make right with Kane.

Soldiers

The government has sent groups of military into determine what "The Shimmer" is and figure out a plan to stop it. Ironically, when the government sends in the last group they only allow one person to go who's been trained with a weapon, a choice which seems odd when no one else has came back alive.
