American Psycho (film) Irony

American Psycho (film) Irony

Bone

Bateman shows all of the guys at work his new business card, believing it's the best. Ironically, Paul Allen has the best of them all and it enrages Patrick, as he's constantly being beaten out by this man whom he seems to dress and look just like.

Confession

Patrick has made a confession on an answering machine of Carnes. However, Carnes tells Bateman that he's seen Allen, the murdered victim, just a few days earlier. This fact ironically means that Bateman has imagined all of this or he's escaping the punishment he knows he deserves.

Ready for Sale

Patrick visits Paul Allen's condo and knows that it will be full of the chopped up bodies he's mutilated. But ironically when he arrives there are no corpses and the apartment is in perfect condition as if nothing ever happened.

Healthy

Bateman is seen working out rigorosly in the morning. He's the epitome of fitness. Ironically, he's also watching a horror film while he works out. This irony creates a strange fear about this seemingly perfect sculpture of a man.

A Success

Bateman seeks to be a successful businessman and seems to have climbed quite a distance as his upper west side apartment would reveal. Ironically, he is constantly copying other men he works around, essentially stealing everything from their style, to their business cards, and ideas about business. He's a phony through and through but appears as one of the elite.
