A Wrinkle in Time, Madeline L'Engle's most famous book, was first published in 1962. It follows thirteen-year-old Meg Murry, the daughter of two scientists, through the complex process of rescuing her father, who went missing on a secret journey through time and space. Accompanied by her new friend Calvin O'Keefe and her preternaturally knowledgeable younger brother Charles Wallace, she goes on a journey led by the otherworldly beings Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which, learning to travel via tesseract (the "wrinkles in time" to which the title refers) to fight the presence of evil in the universe, made concrete in "the black thing."
