Why would Iran choose to “set” her mood to despair?
There are a number of possible interpretations for Iran's choice to set her mood to despair, depending on your conception of her character. She may be clinically depressed, and the Mood Organ may not work the same for a person with such a diagnosis. She may also view the Mood Organ as inauthentic, and prefers to have emotions that arrise organically. Maybe she's tired of being uniformly cheerful, and setting the organ for despair is an interesting way to exercise her autonomy.
