Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are Irony

Max as the King of the Wild Things

At the start of the story, Max is a young, solitary boy, causing havoc on his dog and throughout his house. But when he transports himself to the land of the wild things, he becomes their king. The irony of this transformation echoes one of the text's most important lessons: the importance of taking not only children but also all emotions seriously.
